Puig Gros- Lladres cave

:
Maximum duration:

It is an itinerary with panoramic views through the nearest Ardenya. The first stop will be at Sant Elm hermitage, a marvellous balcony over the sea and the place where the name Costa Brava was born. By Divina Pastora, we’ll reach Puig Gros (323m high), which is full of rocks and telecommunication antennas, from where we’ll have a lovely perspective over Sant Feliu and the surroundings though. The panoramic view spreads to Montgrí, cape Begur and Formigues islands. On clear days, we can sight both Sant Feliu harbour and Canigó massif.
From the half-ruined mas of Sant Benet, we can get close to Puig S’Agoita and Puig Ballaron: both modest peaks are wonderful viewpoints that offer us excellent views over Tossa, Canyet and beyond Palamós.
We’ll leave the mas of can Codolar on the left and we’ll follow the main path to la Trencada (a crossroad). We’ll go straight on and we’ll find a signpost of Lladres cave (we’ll walk 10 minutes more). This cave is placed on the southern slope of Puig de l’Avi and is 7 m long and 5 m wide. It was used for burials in prehistoric times, and more recently, as a hiding and smuggling place. The path that leads to the cave gives us a breathtaking view over the green mountain that goes down to the sea.
Our next stage is Sant Baldiri hermitage, which is very close and needs desperately a restoration. From there, we’ll have a lovely view over la Selva and Gironès plains.
This itinerary with views is complemented by a long descent to can Dalmau, at the foot of Montclar, with beautiful perspectives over the zone of Carcaixells and Roca Ponsa, which was burnt recently. This route can be done by any fairly fit person who likes cycling. Of course, we can walk the whole route or parts of it, and we recommend doing it.
