Cova d'en Riera

:
Maximum duration:

We have to look for the wonderful Cova d’en Riera at the top of Bell-lloc urbanisation, in the mountains, half-hidden in the brambles. There are a sign and milestones in the last part of the path. The best way to cycle there is going down from Romanyà. Once we are there, we’ll go on towards Mas Nou and we’ll turn right at the Puig d’en Ponç signpost. The path goes down a couple of km. Then, there is a crossroad and we’ll take the path on the right side. The path has a steep slope and when we arrive to a terrace, we’ll have to pay attention at the milestones that will lead us to the cave.
We’ll have to walk some metres and we’ll find the cave in front of us. It is quite big and it was used as a shelter in recent times.
A huge slab that is supported by two large stones is the ceiling and makes the cave an elegant and restrained element.
We’ll continue on the same path down, and then on a funny and winding path, covered by heathers. It will lead us to the greenway, at the old railway station called Font Picant. It’s worth discovering this unique cave, one of the few that we can find in this zone of Les Gavarres.
